That is an awesome shot. My dad and I are riding in Fifi, the B-29, next weekend out of Mitchel Field in Baltimore.

I’d love to see the video from that. I’m reminded of this video from a fly over over London in a Lancaster.

Awesome, I can’t imagine the pucker factor those guys must have experienced with ME 109s buzzing around and flak exploding all over.

I believe there will be a a Lanc at Oshkosh this year. Sounds like 4 Mustangs flying by.

I am always surprised by just how small it is inside those WWII bombers, with the possible exception of the B-29, which I have not been inside of. Look how close those guys are sitting, shoulder-to-shoulder, in the Lancaster. Imagine the guy right next to you getting blown up by an AA shell or a 30mm canon round. I paid to climb inside a B-17 once, and my fat ass could barely fit through the bomb bay.

I’m sure the combination of words used in your title has put you on a list somewhere.

Yeah, at 5’ 8”, 140 I’m about at the max size for one of those guys.

Absolutely. Maybe I should do a Jalopnik style review.

Even at 140, you might be a tad too big. I took this picture of a stencil on the outside of a B-17G belonging to the Commemorative AF. Max crew weight of 120 lbs, and a crew of 10, means that the crew would have averaged only 120 lbs each. Of course, most of the crewmen were 18-20 years old, fresh off the farm, small and skinny. The bigger boys were sent to the infantry.

As a brit, yes I have wondered what it would be like to bomb Washington. We already know what it’s like to burn down the white house.

lol jk

I value the efforts of the US and Canada amongst others in WWII.

Nice headline. I think there are some people from the NSA that would like to have a word with you now.
